What are the Benefits of Going to Online School in North Carolina?

There are many benefits of attending school online in North Carolina. If you are in K-12, several factors may dictate whether you will do better at home or in a learning co-op with an online curriculum.

-	Families who are in the military and travel a lot.

-	Children with learning disabilities.

-	Children with physical disabilities.

-	Children who are gifted learners.

-	Families whose jobs take them to foreign countries.

These are all very common and valid reasons for children to take online classes rather than traditional ones. Many of the above reasons result in children becoming withdrawn or isolated by their peers. The reason may be because of an obvious disability, a language barrier, or just not having enough time in one place to establish relationships with others. In most cases, using an online curriculum give these children a chance to form connections with their teachers and other kids in their online communities. They are able to stay with the same teachers and kids all year long. There are many helpful, caring, and accredited online schools in North Carolina for children and parents to choose from.

If you are a college student, there are also many benefits of going to online school in North Carolina. It doesn’t matter if you are a brand new, first time freshman or if you have been in college for many years. Getting an online college education is a great way to fit all of your daily chores into one, neat schedule. There are many reasons why going to school online may be the right choice for you.

-	College student with physical disabilities or learning issues who is uncomfortable in a classroom.

-	Busy parent who is trying to further his or her education.

-	Students who are only attending part-time.

-	Students who need to save money on gas or do not have a vehicle to commute.

-	Holding down a full time job while attending college.

These are all common reasons why a college student might choose to attend an online school in North Carolina rather that commute to a campus.

While there are many fruitful universities and charming college campuses and towns in the state of North Carolina, attending college is not for everybody. If the only reason you do not want to attend a college is because you don’t like the college “crowd” or environment, it is a blessing to be able to get your college degree from the comfort of your own home! Getting an online degree has become a very popular and easy method of growing personally and advancing your career. With each passing year, there are more and more opportunities for online students. What began as a trendy alternative for students has grown into a viable and lucrative business within the educational industry and a way for people who would not otherwise have been able to go to college, to do so.

Study Tips for the New College Student

If you are a new college student, you will find college to be quite different than high school. Not only do many courses waive an attendance policy, they require much more time and effort in order to get a passing grade. While your high school teachers would guide you through the testing process, disperse outlines, and practically give you the answers, college professors actually expect you to do most of the leg work when it comes to studying.

If you don’t know how to study effectively, you are not alone. Luckily, there are many campus and internet resources to help students acquire study techniques to help them throughout their college careers. There are support groups, study groups, and classes which all help students learn the ins and outs of passing college courses. It is up to you to attend these classes and make the effort to study.

Study Groups: This is a great way to learn and retain information as well as meet people and make new friends. If you are a shy person, I am stressing the importance of getting over it and joining a study group. It’s as simple as asking your professors if they know of anybody who has formed a group or just asking the people around you if they want to meet in the library or the quad to study. The people in the study group are students who take their work seriously and want to help you to pass the course. Even the goofiest people in the group pull superior grades because these groups really are “all that.” These intellectual groups of people have interesting and innovative ways of remembering information that they will pass on to you and you will remember their quirky concoctions of informative goodness because they usually are paired with mnemonics, rhymes, or memorable personal anecdotes.

Say NO to Parties: Nobody expects you to become a completely antisocial being when you go away to college. This is especially difficult if you live in a dorm with a roommate, but you must learn to say no to parties and speak up if you have an annoying, loud, or social-lite of a roommate. You or your parents are paying a lot of money for this education and you should expect to benefit greatly from it and produce plenty of A’s. Getting plenty of sleep, eating healthy, and being able to quietly study are essential if you want any of those things to come to pass. When you graduate and become an adult with your own apartment, you will have lots of time to throw parties after work and on the weekends. This is not the time for that.

Buy Used Books: Do not spend any extra money for new textbooks. Even the used ones are extremely overpriced. There are many good reasons to purchase used text books. First, you will not be afraid to bend pages or use a highlighter if your book is used. When you study, don’t be afraid to get in there and mark up your book. Highlight important facts or passages or circle the whole page if it’s important. Use sticky notes for important markings or bend the page; whatever will get the point across. Another thing is that if you have a used book, somebody probably already pointed the good stuff out for you. Don’t take that as set in stone and always read for yourself, but if the person took the time to mark something, chances are they put thought into it. If you bought a used book with no markings in it, the person probably failed the course.

Online Learning Resources for K-12 in North Carolina

Online learning has become quite trendy in the 21st century. Once looked down upon, the idea of homeschooling children has become popular and often times, necessary in the midst of our changing times. In past generations, parents had to scramble and spend a lot of money to find the correct materials to meet state guidelines and many of them were expensive and difficult to understand. With the growing trend of online learning and learning from home, K-12 resources have become abundant, user-friendly, interesting, and usually free. Because of these improvements, more people are able to take advantage of learning from home.

There are many reasons why children and parents choose a home-based curriculum rather than a traditional one.

-	Families who travel a lot for work or pleasure often don’t stay in one place for very long. This puts tremendous stress on kids when it comes to making friends, forming relationships with teachers, and transferring coursework from one school to another.
-	Children with learning or physical disabilities may feel more comfortable at home and in turn, will have a better attitude toward school and learning.
-	Kids who continually excel and outperform their grade level thrive in a home environment where they can continue through lessons as quickly as they wish with no bounds on age or grade level.

Some of the most notable online learning resources for K-12 in North Carolina include:

1.	K12 Online School
3.	North Carolina Virtual Academy
4.	Learn NC

How to Plant a Tree

Unlike annually planted vegetable gardens or dainty pansies and petunias, planting trees requires far less care and maintenance. Assuming that you take the extra care to follow the required planting methods and instructions, your tree will live a long and healthy life with minimal intervention from you.

Planting Times

The climate in which you are planting will dictate when you plant and which species of trees you will be able to grow. Most new trees, regardless of type, thrive in a moderate temperature with ample rainfall. Your tree needs time to acclimate to the temperature of the region and the soil and to take root before it experiences any regional heat, drought, snowfall, or deep freezing conditions.

Planting Instructions

There are many mistakes that people make when transplanting a sapling. When digging the hole, do not make it any deeper than the pot in which the tree came in. If you make the hole too deep, oxygen will not be able to reach the roots and it will not grow correctly. The circumference of the hole should be about three times as wide as the pot in which the tree arrived. This allows the roots to expand effortlessly through the soil which may otherwise be too hard for the tender roots.

Balled Roots

Trees that have burlap around the root ball can be stored in a shady area as long as you keep the balled roots moist. Carry these trees by the ball and not the trunk and plant them as soon as possible. Make sure to remove the fabric and any twine that is holding it on prior to planting it. Loosely pack the fill into the hole to allow for proper water drainage and oxygenation.

Container Trees

These trees tend to dry out faster than balled trees, so keep them moist and plant them as soon as you can. Make sure to remove the container before planting unless you have an organic planter, in which case you only need to tear the sides away. Many times, plants that have been in containers will have a very compact root system. If this is the case, gently fluff the roots out so they can expand fully when planted.

Bare-Rooted Trees

Trees with no sacks or pots have no soil protecting their tender root systems. These trees need to be planted as soon as they reach their destination. Make sure the roots look healthy when the tree arrives; they should be moist and fibrous.
Fertilizers and Soil Additives

If you want to give your tree a helping hand, there are products which can be added to help growing conditions. Root fertilizer can help the roots to take hold and thrive in their new environment. Don’t just dump the fertilizer in the hole though, work it into the soil all around the root ball where the system will expand. Mycorrhizal Fungi is a wonderful supplement for new plantings. It is a natural fungus which promotes growth and discourages harmful fungi.
